Many patients desire a reshaping of their nose. Rhinoplasty achieves this. Meticulous detailing of the nasal dorsum, tip, and nostril openings are performed during this procedure. Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at our facility. Assessment of the nasal airway is also an important preoperative evaluation and commonly functional opening of the airway is performed at the same time as the reshaping of the nose. Initial consultation includes history and physical examination and frequently radiographic evaluation of the nose which is performed at our facility. Patients can expect to wear a splint on their nose for approximately 1 week postoperatively.
At the time of splint removal while there is some residual swelling most of the initial swelling has subsided. Complaints of pain postoperatively is unusual, but patients will experience nasal stuffiness for the first 7 to 10 days after surgery. Each patient is given specific postoperative instructions based on their requirements. Rhinoplasty gives lifelong incredibly positive changes, both aesthetically and functionally, for appropriately selected patients.
